Attraction, a leading production company recently named Producer of the Year in Canada, is seeking a dynamic and creative Head of Unscripted Content Development. With over 8,000 hours of programming, Attraction has delivered successful productions like East Harbour Heroes, How Did They Fix That?, Crime Scene Confidential and Forensic Factor: A New Era. As part of our Toronto team, you’ll lead the charge in developing high-quality English unscripted content for both domestic and international audiences.
The ideal candidate is a creative leader with a proven track record in developing and producing unscripted content. They have a sharp eye for spotting winning ideas and talent, excel at developing formats and building connections, and are driven to move projects forward. They can motivate and guide a team while ensuring tasks stay on track, yet aren’t above rolling up their sleeves and getting the work done themselves. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to manage multiple projects for diverse audiences are key to thriving in this dynamic role.
This is a hybrid role, requiring a blend of both in-office and remote work. The ideal candidate will need to be available for in-person collaboration on key projects, meetings, and team events three days per week, while also having the flexibility to work remotely two days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the unscripted team to originate and develop new programming ideas, aligning with partner needs and strategic objectives.
• Provide creative leadership and support to the development team, ensuring excellence throughout the development process.
• Oversee and actively contribute to the creation of pitches, one-sheets, and follow-up materials for broadcasters and potential partners, ensuring all content is polished and compelling.
• Be hands-on in finessing and refining materials to maintain the highest standards of quality and creativity.
• Build and maintain relationships with key industry players, including writers, showrunners, and on-screen talent.
• Build and foster strong relationships with clients, partners, and other key stakeholders.
• Stay current on programming trends in both domestic and international markets, ensuring projects are competitive and relevant.
• Lead the unscripted team in managing a growing slate of projects, maintaining quality across all areas of development.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 7 years of experience as a passionate content developer in the unscripted space, with a strong background in creating and shaping projects for various platforms.
• Strong knowledge of international and/or interprovincial co-productions.
• Deep understanding of unscripted content production, financing, and pitching.
• Extensive network within the content industry.
• Proven experience in leading and mentoring a creative team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
